I love Prescott, volunteering, the performing arts, traveling, and reading. My family moved to Prescott in 1962 I am a mother of two and have five grandchildren ranging in age from three months to seven and a half years old. I’m blessed that my kids and grandkids all live in the quad city area. I married my high school sweetheart, Jim, and we have been married for almost 42 years. We were both fortunate to get our college educations and stay in Prescott for our careers.
I was always drawn to leadership positions in service organizations from middle school through college, my professional career, and now retirement. In 1976 I started my 34-year career at Yavapai College as the Student Activities Director helping students develop their leadership abilities, presenting entertainers and professional artists, and a wide variety of activities. My job focus moved to present mainly performing arts and I am most proud of founding and developing the Community Events program and the Performing Arts Charitable Endowment. The most rewarding times were the Artist in Residence performances by professional artists for thousands of school children from pre-school through college. The looks of awe on their faces and chatter throughout the theater, classrooms, and cafeterias, warmed my heart and increased their knowledge of the world around them. This was a career of making people happy. Many people know me from my pre-show introductions on the stage thanking the audience for their support before the artists took the stage.
In 2010, I was honored to be chosen as an Outstanding Yavapai College alumnus and retired from Yavapai College as Director, Major Gifts in YC Foundation. Each year an endowed scholarship in my name is awarded to two students at YC for their leadership and service to the community. I helped develop the Legacy League at YC helping donors to leave a life gift for Yavapai College and our students.
Currently, I am the Chair of the Yavapai College Board assisting YC President, Dr. Lisa Rhine, as she leads our College to provide educational opportunities for our county residents.
