ABOUT donna werking, 2020 PRESCOTT ATHENA AWARD FINALIST

  Northern Arizona Social, LLC

Owner, Traditional Marketing Expert, Digital & Social Media Strategist

Donna and her two siblings are the first generation born US citizens in her family. Her adolescent years were not easy as her parents divorced when she was just two years old. Her mother, who spoke very little English, had a difficult time caring for her three children as a single parent. Donna and her sister were placed in the foster care system for months at a time until her mother was able to establish a stable home for her young children.

“As an adult, I understand the sacrifices my mother made to become a US Citizen. She escaped a desolate farm town in rural Thailand and left her eight siblings behind at the young age of twenty-one to build a better future. Today, I can only imagine the difficulty of this feat, the courage it must have taken to give us a chance to be better… she is forever my hero.”

Donna’s mom remarried to her stepfather who was in the air force when she was a toddler. She moved to many places up through her teenage years and never established real roots until she moved to Prescott, Arizona in 1995. On her own accord, she completed her education at Yavapai College and Northern Arizona University where Donna would meet her husband now of 21 years.

With a growing career in marketing Prescott businesses since 2006, she later established Northern AZ Social, LLC in 2015, a full-service marketing agency which helps businesses grow their brand identity. “We created a small business program in 2015 which aided the small business owner that didn’t have the tools, budget or know-how to market themselves. I wanted to build a program that gave everyone a chance to succeed.”

Over the last 25 years in Prescott, Donna has supported her community by donating her time on committees and volunteering. She is a Prescott and Prescott Valley Chamber Member. She has supported local events and charities including, but not limited to; YRMC’s Celebrate Life Health Expo, Whiskey Off-Road Kid’s Ride, Whiskey Row Marathon, Rock the Block, The Big Sting, Prescott Women Who Care and Mile High Brewfest. Donna was a committee member of the ACFYC and co-founded the Whiskey Row Boot Drop event in 2009 while aiding the City’s Tourism Department. She was on the marketing committee for the inaugural Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Arizona (BGCCAZ) 2017 Dancing for the Stars event. She performed as a celebrity dancer in 2018’s Dancing for the Stars, helping the Clubs raise thousands for youth programs. Donna has supported the Boys & Girls Clubs with volunteering, fundraising and held the title as Marketing Chair during her time as a board member for the organization. She aided select city council member campaigns and initiatives such as Proposition 443, and donated funds and marketing support to aid local non-profits.

Donna’s daughter graduated Prescott High School in 2019 and now attends the University of Arizona as a Medical Student. Donna has an eight-year-old son at Skyview School in the third grade. “I’m deeply invested in positive growth and hope to see our youth make Prescott their home as adults by becoming contributing members of the community.”
